In early 2024 I started working on more personal portfolio projects and turned to old classic fairy tales to learn more about layout, illustrating and giving shape to stories that are familiar while trying to give them some of my own artistic perspective and voice.

The Little Mermaid was a story very dear to me as a child, when i went back to it as an adult though i realized how much I misremembered, so delving back into it was really inspiring and shifted my perspective on its themes. This project was illustrated using graphite drawings and painting over them digitally to preserve the charm and warmth of using traditional media.

I learned a lot during this process and went on to do a layout for the entire story to make sure that the images would flow well with the written words and lead the reader through it. White and empty spaces became just as important as the images themselves, below you can find some excerpts.
